Tyneside v Close House (Home) - 11th August 2010
The last match of the season and VC JT threw in a bit of a team juggle to try and bank a few extra points against a Close House team that had been struggling at the bottom end of the table. Hot from his 62 at the weekend our N&D talisman Dan Beeson was drafted in to play No. 1, Sam Robinson was moved to No. 2 and Richard Airey demoted to No. 3.
Considering our dismall performance last week away to Stocksfield and putting aside the rollover sweep pot, Team Tyneside had only pride to play for and tried to rectify whatever went wrong the week before. On a cool and rather blustery evening the conditions were tough but favoured the home players.
Kicking thinks off Dan Beeson must have felt pretty confident standing on the first tee - seeing his drive clatter into the lone tree on the right hand side of the fairway however was not what the Doctor ordered and brought young Dan back down to earth with a bump. Struggling to find his '62' form he soldiered on however and ground out a deserved win. Sam Robison followed and continued to struggle with his matchplay form - for one as talented as young Sam is it is difficult to see where he is going wrong! Richard Airey followed and, perhaps a little miffed at his No. 3 placing, set out to prove a point and bag the cash... 6 up after 7 he should have done but concentration lapses on 8 and 11 cost him valuable holes - he still ran out a comfortable 6 & 5 win though. Mark Pollard came next and, despite a dodgy 'ruby' the night before, managed to find his legs and finish the season on a win - well done Mark. Up next was Gareth Black who found the going tough and struggled to put away his opponent on the night. At the match meal Gareth declared his retirement from team golf for next season...... Hopefully the retirement will be shortlived and JT's successor will be able to entice him back to winning ways. Gary Morse followed and was confident of banking (again) the sweep pot, young Gary has proved himself time and again as a true match player and, baring the three matches he missed this year, would have surely beaten Ricardo to the top team player spot. He again ran out a comfortable win and shared the sweep pot with Richard.
Well that's that.. in an ever strengthening Hadrian League, Tyneside's 'second' team finished in 10th spot - teachers report might read "Great team spirit and comradery but could do better!".
To all involved: I've thoroughly enjoyed my return to team golf following my 'year out' and would like to thank everyone - team players and managers - for a great year. - Richard Airey

The course record was broken today – Saturday 7th August 2010
by Dan Beeson playing in the Charity Cup.
The previous course record was a 63 shot by Andrew Gunn in 2001.
On the front nine Dan started with six 3’s and birdied the 7th hole to have a front nine total of 29.
On the back nine Dan had a bogey at the 12th hole but birdied the 10th, 14th and 18th holes to come home in 33 for a total of 62 and a new course record.
Dan Beeson is the current Tyneside Club Champion.
Congratulations on a fantastic score.

Tyneside v Arcot (Away) - 5th August 2010
Dan Beeson again led the line admirably, the longer the season went the better he seemed to get, he celebrated acheiving scratch status this week by sub par golf to dominate his opponent, Dan was 4 under when the game finished. Dan Keogh returned to the team this week but despite being level par and having "Shifty" on the bag he couldn't make it a succesful return. Roger had his opponent down early in the game and never let him up, playing good solid golf to finish him off on the 14th. this was Roger's 4th win in a row and shows what an asset he would have been had we had him in the team from the onset. Kris Rae was 3 up after 8 but some poor form with his irons in the back 9 was his undoing losing a match which at one time he controlled. James not for the first time this season got off to bad start and was 4 down after 9 eventually haveing to try and come back from 5 down which was too steep a hill to climb. Richard "the Raptor" Airey (he's got a new driver) again justified his inclusion as a reliable last man with another solid performance which cemented a good result away from home to a team above us in the league.
We went into this game knowing that 7 points would bring us an award on the night, it turned out that we didn't need them. At the beginning of the season a target was set to be the most improved team in the league after finishing bottom last year. Newcastle United pushed us all the way in fact with three games to go we were trailing them by 8 points, a magnificent 26 points from our last three games saw us overhaul them to finish 6th in the league and claim the Most Improved Team award. Whilst celebrating the team's success we must spare a thought for Kris Rae, had he halved his match at Arcot he would have claimed the prize for the league player of the year, he lost out by number of holes won in the season! It was still a great performance Kris and a joy to watch.
I would like to thank everybody who has participated this year for their time and effort and for acheiving their goal, to move on and improve for next season is now the target and the responsiblity for that I can now hand over to my vice captain John Turner whose help and support this season has been much appreciated.
Over and Out.
