Restoration at Colt's Tyneside

Tyneside Golf Club, designed by Harry Colt, opened in 1911 has embarked on a programme of restoration work.

Dutch architect Frank Pont of Infinite Variety Golf Design is overseeing the restoration work. Frank is Europe’s premier restorer of historic Colt, Simpson and Pennick golf courses. He was voted best Dutch golf architect 2010/11 Golf Weekly and is working with eight clients in Golf World’s European top 100.

Alastair Greenfield (Club Manager) commented – "we have been working with Frank Pont on the 1st and 18th holes to restore the bunkers, playing corridors and green surrounds back to their full glory. Following a number of visits to Tyneside by Frank last year it was decided that restoration work should start on these two holes as they would have the biggest immediate impact".

Plans are currently being drawn up for the restoration of the remaining 16 holes of the course which will be presented to the members at an information evening later in the year.

Frank Pont commented - "Tyneside has all the hallmarks of a vintage Harry Colt design".

Alastair Greenfield commented – "we have had an extremely positive feedback from members, and, the Greenkeepers led by Head Greenkeeper David Simpson have enjoyed working on the project".
